LCD Enclosure Used To Safeguard Advertising Hardware

LCD Enclosure Global Explain how to protect valuable hardware.

When digital signage is deployed outdoors, there is a demand to protect the advertising hardware using an LCD enclosure, this is essential if the project is to have any chance of success.

Let us look at the digital signage hardware first to understand what is needed in such a project.

Media Player.

This is the hardware that stores all the advertising material on some form of internal memory, this can be either a solid state solution (which are a little more costly – but worth it), or using a memory card to store the content on. These units are no bigger than a satellite box and are normally controlled by a remote control, so that you can monitor and change how the ads are presented.

Also in this player is the software, this is what makes them unique, is the way they can split the flat screen to have different zones on one screen, advertising different products.

Updating content.

Then you have to consider how the content will be refreshed with new adverts, this is one of the main stumbling blocks, as the memory card solution required an individual to go to each location and update the content manually, this can be laborious as well as time consuming and you can bet that some of the digital signage will be still running the old ads.

The solid state hardware can be updated using the internet, from either a wireless or hard wired connection, making updating digital signage content a breeze and saving time and money in labour costs.

Normally for indoor applications such as in bars and restaurants the media player is either mounted directly to the rear of the screen or in a location close by, but if the hardware is going to be used outdoors on a wired solution the media player needs to have cables to the location this is why some solutions are mounted on external walls with the player indoors using a weather proof TV.

LCD flat panel screen.

These are specifically designed for commercial use, with more robust components than a conventional TV used in our homes, as these commercial screens are normally running 24×7 and normally with a life span of 50,000 hours.

One of the main differences is these screens compared to a domestic TV is that they can be mounted in a portrait position and using the media player and TV controls the image is presented in the portrait position, this cannot be created effectively with any aesthetically pleasing presentation on a domestic TV as there would be far too much black area on the screen.

LCD Enclosure – High Risk Protection?

Well this is where an LCD enclosure is used, as an LCD enclosure will protect the advertising hardware from the weather and any potential vandalism. The digital signage enclosure has enough internal room to accommodate the flat panel screen and the media player can either be mounted on the rear of the TV or on the internal mounting frame for the screen, providing an all in one solution.
