Education is big business and even the schools are realising how much power they have, as some have experimented with digital signage and had amazing results.
So let us look at the technology used and why it is so successful.
LCD enclosure
Some schools have seen an opportunity to inform parents what is happens in their child’s school life; this has easily been achieved by using big flat screen TVs and a media player in an LCD enclosure. This special housing is mounted to the exterior of the school so that parents can see it when they arrive to collect their children.
The content can range from work the children have completed, to images of items they have made and even videos and animations the children have generated too, then on the boring side it can also display the attendance of the children as well as the grades.
Now this helps the school control who comes in to the school to pick children up at the end of the day, if you have ever been to a school during the day, you will be aware that you have to go through several access control points before you are in the school this is in the children’s interest.
We are all aware of how forgetful our children are for not passing on information from school only for us to find it in their school bags 3 weeks later, now school can inform all parents that dinner money is due, any payments for school trips or holidays are due can be broadcast on the digital signage system so everyone is aware of the news.
How easy it is to update content?
If for example a teacher needs to speak to a student’s parent, this can be announced on the large screen, by just opening up the software on the media player and typing the message in a text box and clicking submit.
Images and video can easily be added too, as easy as adding an image to your Face book page.
Digital Poster.
Inside the school in the main reception area near the head teachers office is the perfect spot for a digital poster, this can be used to show prospective parents the schools position in the SATs levels, any awards the staff have been awarded or achievement can be highlighted, using audio, video and images to create an excellent first impression.
These can range in size from small 20” units to 60” units and they can be mounted in either portrait or landscape position, depending upon the information you are going to show.
The information on a digital poster will be updated much less than the data on the digital sign outdoors, the digital poster is there to show the basic information of who the staff are, how the school is supported, who the governors are and how over the previous years the results for the school has increased constantly, showing that the school’s staff are well trained and help every student attain their best work possible.
