Why use outdoor advertising at a harbor location?
Outdoor digital advertising is a newish concept for restaurants to advertise the menu to passers-by to tempt them in to the restaurant. But one of the main issues has been that deploying this type of advertising solution could be expensive, until now!
In previous years, when people have looked at electronic menus for restaurants the cost of the hardware specifically for an outdoor harbor location was so expensive that the projects never got off the ground. What digital signage hardware is used?
To create a digital menu what you need is some type of device that will store the advertising content or menu, a screen to display the content on.
As you can imagine there is no waterproof, outdoor digital media player on the market, as most advertising solutions in a restaurant are within easy cable runs from the player to the screen (less than 100 meters), after the 100 meters the signal quality drops dramatically.
The screen has to either be under an awning or canopy to protect it from rain; however this will not protect the screen from the corrosive effects of the salt around the harbor.

The ultimate in protecting the digital signage hardware outdoors is by using a waterproof LCD enclosure; these are manufactured in stainless steel and mild steel with an outer coating for general inland use. Because the salt in the air would corrode a mild steel unit should the paint get chipped, this is possible when strollers are pushed passed the stands and inadvertently chip the stand, over a short period the stand begins to rust.
Waterproof LCD enclosure.
A waterproof LCD enclosure prevents water ingress into the housing that would otherwise harm the electronics. The TV is mounted on the internal mounting bracket and the media player can be mounted also to the rear of the bracket with the cables exiting the protective housing.
The thermostatic cooling and heating systems provide all year round protection for the hardware, so no matter if it is sub-zero outside the hardware inside should still be at the right temperature to run efficiently.
These waterproof LCD enclosure units provide enough protection for the hardware to perform even in the most demanding environments.
The protective TV housing should also be secured with high security locks and have a viewing window made from toughened glass to prevent the screen being damaged when the restaurant is closed, by passing vandals.
