Benefits of Transparent LCD Displays

Understanding Transparent LCD Displays

Transparent LCD displays are widely being used today. If you have seen movies like Minority Report, Avatar, or I, Robot then you may already have an idea of what these LCD displays look like. They are see-through panels, much like a regular glass window, so you can still see what is on the other side. These LCD displays allow you to view videos and photo images as if it was a regular LCD television unit.

Why Use Transparent LCD Displays?

Regular LCD displays depend on BLU technology or Back Light Units technology to display images. Without this technology, the screen would be pitch-black. However, a transparent LCD panel doesn’t depend on these. Instead it will use other light sources like sunlight or in-house artificial light to display the image. When it is dark or if it is nighttime, the TV will revert to BLU technology.

The Main Benefits of Using Transparent LCD Displays.

So why would someone want to use a transparent or translucent LCD screen? Consider some of the aesthetic and practical benefits below:

1. One of the main benefits of course is that you can see images on the other side of the display. This allows you to place the LCD in places where you want to see through the panel. Say for example you are promoting a new brand of beer or wine. You can place the bottle behind the panel, stationary in its place so everyone can see it, but then have the transparent LCD displays show a video or image presentation. You can display the information regarding the product, your contact information, or price without obstructing anything while it is on display.

A transparent LCD display is often used in an internet refrigerator. You don’t even have to open the fridge doors – just look through the transparent panel, see what is missing, and use the LCD to connect online and order what you need (from the website of an online grocery store).

2. These displays are also energy efficient. Studies were conducted on the more recent transparent LCD displays and it showed that when they are relying on sunlight or other light sources other than the BLU technology they only consume 10% of what regular LCD TVs do. That is a 90% advantage, allowing users to greatly cut down their utility bill. The greatest thing about it though is that it uses little energy without sacrificing the quality of the images displayed on the screen. You’ll still get 1080p resolution with crisp images and a full range of colours.

3. There is no doubt that these panels look very stylish. It opens a lot of new possibilities for people who are very particular with their interior designs. As movies and TV shows are revealing, transparent panels are becoming the thing of the future and that future is quickly becoming today’s trend.

Transparent LCD displays have definitely become a hit—they’re practical, useful, and stylish at the same time.
