Digital Outdoor Signage – The Equipment Used

Digital outdoor signage or advertising as it is sometimes referred to can range in price depending upon what you want to achieve and how you want to achieve it. For example there are large video walls on Times Square NY, or you will see LCD screens in your local mall, both work well but it depends on how much you want to invest.

Video Walls.

Using Commercial Screens.

Now video walls can be made up of outdoor, sun bright screens in a grid of 6 x 4 screens, these screens can be left outdoors and are normally fitted to building walls high up from the footpath, this high vantage point has two advantages. The first is it catches more peoples attention being high up and the second is that the screens are out of the way, preventing them getting damaged. Now these can have zones set to certain ads and only these ads displayed, for example the centre 4 screens could advert a clothing brands latest range, the surrounding screens can be used for weather or news information, then when the ad is finished the entire screen can revert back to full size showing other ads. These range from $1299 per screen.

Using a modular video wall.

These video walls are specifically designed for outdoor use and normally comprise of LED panels, providing the latest in technology. These panels are available in 1 metre square panels that fit into an external housing and once connected to the central processor the ads can be zoned as above. These can range from $3,500 per square metre.

Outdoor Kiosks.

These are a weather proof and vandal proof kiosk that will withstand the elements and are normally deployed in areas that are not secluded where people are present and with minimal supervision. These kiosks range in size from 42” up to 80” and can be either none touch or interactive through a touch screen panel.

Normally the display is either fitted behind the touch panel or protective window and is connected to a computer or media player that holds the advertisements and all updates of fresh content are through a secure internet connection. These can range from $4000 up to $20,000.

Outdoor digital signage enclosure.

An outdoor digital signage enclosure allows the use of non commercial screens but offers the correct level of protection for the internally housed hardware. The screen, media player or computer are housed in a protective casing made from heavy gauge steel, painted in a special coating to resist the anything the climate can throw at it.

In each unit a thermostatic cooling and heating system is available to ensure the internally housed hardware is kept at the ideal temperature inside preventing the equipment from overheating.

Each unit is locked by special security locks to prevent any one stealing the hardware inside the casing. These range from $1299 and can be moved and re-configured if the site has to be moved making this a very cost effective and flexible solution.

These units can even be monitored remotely with alerts emailed to the AV administrator should an incident of abuse be detected on the housing.

LCD Enclosure Global manufacture a range of digital sign enclosures, these offer weather proof and vandal proof protection.
