Using Digital Signage Correctly in Hotels – Part 2.

When ever you enter a business, hotel or store the first thing a potential sees dictates how the “customer” will enjoy their experience. If the interior is drab you will for sure want to leave immediately, won’t you? I know I would.

However, on the flip side, if you enter an appealing and vibrant entrance area, this will make you want to stay. Since hotels are our focus on this part of our blog, let’s take the lobby area.

Digital Signage in the hotel lobby.
If digital signage is used in lobby areas, this sets the stage for the entire guests stay, providing the signage is engaging enough to capture their attention. For this reason the dynamic signs must provide more than just attractive visual appearance.

They could be used for viewing room rates, just like drinks at a bar the prices do fluctuate on a supply and demand basis, just like drinks the prices are normally difficult to find, as they are not in plain view. Digital signage can now assist in this by displaying rates that may be a reduction on their standard rack rates, even before the guest gets to the check in desk, they will know the best deals of the day, in turn hotels can use this to their advantage by filling rooms up at a discounted rate.

A massive advantage of a dynamic signage network in a hotel is that by opening up the advertising to external companies, hotels can accept ads from companies targeting travellers.

Another useful way to use digital signage in a hotel.
Have you ever been in a hotel after a day full of meetings, in a strange city, craving a good meal and wondering where you are going to eat that night?

Well some hotels have deployed digital signs to assist the concierge during busy periods or even to take the place of a concierge were there was none previously. These are a perfect replacement for the brochure racks many hotels have promoting local attractions. The use of dynamic signs like this have proven useful to travellers as well as saving hotel staff time by not having to give directions or suggestions to guests.

A dynamic sign can provide tourists with immediate access to local attractions, weather, maps and restaurant listings, hospitality companies are integrating call to action features so that guests can receive coupons and information on local attractions.
