Talking digital signage.

Heard of talking digital signage?

Are we likely to see and hear talking digital signage in 2013? Well the answer is yes and Casio are the brains behind it.
Casio will be exhibiting the talking digital signage solution at the CES 2013 show, however we can give a brief overview of the new, innovative digital signage solution.

Talking digital signage shop fronts.

Casio is set to change all stores fronts with talking digital signage boards, this solution integrates the digital signage screen and media player. On the screen animated characters or people try to talk to passing consumers with computer generated audio.

The talking digital signage solutions only measures 21 inch wide by 18 inches high, they are currently using the “Casio hamburger” as a logo. Numerous other outlets are using this to promote their goods such as; new fresh produce for grocers, underwear advertised by male models and a chef discussing his Italian menu.

The most successful it has to be said is that talking hamburger, as the cuteness of the animation increases the Quick Serve Restaurant food appeal to consumers. The intelligent burger can speak several languages including Spanish, Chinese and English.
As well as the cute animated character, Casio is using their knowledge and expertise in light source projection ensuring that outlet owners are engaging with consumers.

Talking digital signage costs.

Casio have given any indication that the talking sign will cost in the region of $10,000 and will be launched at the end of January 2013. The display is guaranteed to work for 20,000 hours, that equates to working 24×7 for two years. Now the question has to be asked if the return on investment will be significant enough to justify the investment.

Current shop front digital signage.

The current way shop fronts are displayed is by using digital posters in the windows displaying a product or service offered.

Alternative, outlet owners are using commercial grade screens such as LG or Samsung on collecting them to a networked media player or a standalone media player depending upon the budget. The signs can be hung in either portrait or landscape position making them more flexible than using a standard TV -as the standard TV is not designed or manufactured to work 24 hours and will burn out extremely quickly.

These current shop front digital signs can use QR codes to display promotions on the screens, all a customer has to do is scan the code with a smartphone and display the code at check out to get the discount. This current solution is rather cost-effective it comes in at around $1200 and as a lifetime of 50,000 hours or 5 1/2 years of continuing use 24 hours per day.
