Digital Signage Used in Education

The days of chalking on walls and posting fliers on side walks is over, forget the cluttered, overflowing notice board on the campus, digital signage is here to be used. Dynamic signs are being used not only to clean up the billboards from the clutter, but the school officials can now deliver their message direct to students.

One of the greatest assets of dynamic signs is the ability to be seen, on a university campus, this is perfect sometimes with as many as 10,000 students over acres of the universities site, making it a perfect fit for information delivery as well as being entertaining.

There has been a huge increase in electronic signage in student unions and meeting lobbies, as this is were the bulk of the students will pass throughout the day, ensuring each message gets as many sets of eye balls on it every day.

The East Carolina University with it’s 25,000 students have deployed over 100 networked dynamic signs throughout the campus, these have a two fold use;

1. To deliver marketing messages
2. To deliver emergency notifications

These are controlled from one centrally managed content system, the Universities content features flash, images, HD video and RSS feeds.

Each department has control over the content throughout its department, so events can be broadcast relevant to those students. With this being the case, the content management software has to have granular user access control, so that each user can be granted different access privileges based on the screens they control in their location.

It goes to prove you have to stay up with the technology otherwise you will be left behind.
