Digital Poster FAQs

Digital poster – common questions.

With indoor digital signage being the starting point for most businesses that are looking to promote and increase their product sales these include digital menu boards and digital posters.

Now associated with indoor digital signage are several common questions asked by potential users, so now you will have all the facts before you start looking for a solution.

We have formulated the most common questions asked, so you are armed with the information before you go looking to buy the hardware.

Screen Manufacturer
We are constantly quizzed as to who the screen manufacturer is, however the most costly (but more reliable) screens are the ones with either a Samsung or LG commercial panel.

The units that are supplied with the high end panel do not come with a badge on the front as would a TV – why?

The basic answer is that because the manufacturer of the screen does not make the media player, they cannot (and will not) put their badge on the front of either of the digital poster or digital menu board.

This frustrates potential users as they only have the information the supplier gives them, however if they ever opened the back panel of the display they would see the manufacturers brand on the rear of the screen.

Is additional software needed?
Normally the software is included and already installed on the media player, so no other software is required.

How and where is the content stored?
The entry level digital poster range use an ad player that stores the ads including video, audio and images on a memory card. The digital posters that use a hard drive store the ads on the internal solid state hard drive.

How can the screens be mounted?
These LCD posters can be mounted in windows so the displays can be seen from outside the window or directly onto walls using the VESA mount on the rear of the poster.

How can the adverts be updated?
The digital poster that used the memory card solution have a USB port built into the player, new content is placed on a USB drive then inserted into the media player and the content is then updated.

For the solid state solution new adverts are updated on a computer then uploaded through either a hard wired network to the media player or through a wireless connection.

Can a ticker be added to the screen?
Some digital signage hardware do offer the capability to add a ticker to either the side or bottom of the screen, this is usually controlled through the inbuilt menu. The simplest way is it open MS notepad and type in the text to be seen then save the file as .xml format and add it to the memory card, opening the menu onscreen and then select the title and size required, exit the menu and the ticker will appear.
