CCTV Now Using LCD Displays

With the advancement of technology and falling price of LCD television displays, it has never been a more affective time to buy an LCD display, these can be used in all types of applications.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) has been around for years, as this is a basic network of video cameras that are linked and send a signal back to a screen so an operator can establish what is happening in a particular location. CCTV is used in areas such as football stadiums, hospitals, factories and some homes to protect the property from trespassers.

Different uses of CCTV.

Now most of the UK has CCTV coverage in every city, to monitor potential problems with youths that act anti social.

The majority of applications are to enforce people are lawful and if they are not,t he video evidence is so compelling courts are now using this type of evidence to prosecute criminals.

From the first CCTV system that was installed in 1942 to monitor the launch of the V2 rockets, this technology has come along way. CCTV systems can use a number of cabling solutions, from “up the coax” – this is using coax cable and is the basic option to a fibre installation that is at the top end of the price range.

When a CCTV system is going to be deployed, it must be planned correctly, the location of the cameras is essential and the following all should be covered by some form of video surveillance:

  • Entrance
  • Exits
  • Remote areas
  • Car parks

The connectivity needs to be considered next, are you going to use fibre, category 5e data cabling, coax or wireless connections? This will depend upon the projects budget.

Now into the control room.

These rooms can be a huge hall with large screens covering an entire wall or a simple office where the security operatives are based, the must have here is a digital video recorder for recording any incidents that occur during the operators watch – these can then be passed to the police as evidence.

From the digital video, these can feed the old cube monitors or more recently companies have started using large LCD televisions, due mainly to them being cost effective and readily available, not forgetting the large format images they produce.

The larger screens have the facility to zone the screen, so for example a 60” LCD television could have 6 zones on the screen giving fantastic crystal clear images, ideal for seeing people where they shouldn’t be. The technology is there and is falling all the times, so it is best to take advantage of it.
